Group Counseling

What students often do not realize is that the challenges they are facing are quite similar to those of their peers, which is often difficult to tell because we all tend to show our more confident and impressive sides in public.   However, students often have more to gain from Group Counseling sessions than individual sessions because it has the added benefits of

  • Realizing that they are not alone in their struggles or challenges
  • Having peers, who can often relate on a deeper level than an older professional in the counselor role
  • Can deepen their connections to other students through the support they receive and offer in group contexts

Our Group services include therapy groups, discussion groups, and workshops on particular topics that are most relevant to Oxford students.

Some of our recent groups have included:

Getting Below the Surface

A group for students wanting to connect on a deeper level than the more superficial conversations that often take place in social groups

Family Trees

A group for students wanting to explore the impact that their families have had on them, particularly those who come from families where there was some dysfunction or particular challenges that impacted your lives in ways that show up in your day to day experiences.

Worrying Well

A group for students who recognize that their level of worry or anxiety have reached a point that is disruptive in their lives, wanting to learn new approach to life that involve less worry or, at least, a level of worry that adds energy and focus without keeping you from striving from your strengths and values.

While we won't offer all of these groups each semester, we will offer those that seem to be relevant to the most students in any given semester.  Interested in any of these or have other ideas for groups?  If so, email us to suggest topics or express an interest in any of these, and we can begin to keep track of which group would help the most students in the school year! (NOTE:  Do not use this email to schedule an appointment or if you are in crisis and need immediate attention.  Phone us at the info below for such circumstances).
